About Me

My name is Matthew Meyer. I'm a 19-year old University student from Victoria, BC, Canada.

I have played music for most of my life and it has helped me in many ways. I started playing piano when I was 7 years old, and guitar at age 9. I learned other instruments such as the ukulele, drums, bass guitar, and cello along the way, and began writing and recording my own music at an early age. I have received formal lessons for piano, guitar, and singing, and have self-taught the other instruments.

I have experience teaching music to a wide variety of students, ranging in skill levels and age. I taught private lessons for 5 months before heading to Toronto for university, and I also have volunteer experience teaching ukulele to grade three classes at Prospect Lake Elementary School.

I believe that music is both a beautifully fun thing to learn, but also one of the most beneficial as it can have positive impacts on cognitive ability, stress levels, and creativity. I've had my fair share of music teachers who want to "stick to the book" or "practice more scales and arpeggios", but all I wanted to do was learn my own songs. That's exactly what I did, I went behind my teachers back and learned songs off of YouTube. When I showed her, she didn't like that I had learned other songs, that weren't part of my homework. But that changed.

The music teachers that have since taught me throughout my childhood, inspired me to learn so well, that I never felt like I did one second of practice since, despite playing every day for multiple hours. Playing music shouldn't be homework, and while it may be difficult sometimes, I feel as though it is my job to help you learn exactly what you want, whether that be learning Harry Styles' new song on guitar, learning how to improvise with other musicians, learn music theory, or write your own songs to release on Spotify! I'm here to help you love music, learn what you want, and do exactly what you want with the music you learn. That is why I encourage all students who sign-up to send me a message so we can talk about exactly what they are looking to gain from taking lessons with me, and what would make them the happiest to learn!

In 2020, I started making TikTok's in hopes of promoting my music, and have since gained almost 40K followers! These wonderful followers have helped me achieve great things over the past year, like 20k streams on my debut single on Spotify, a video with over 5 million views, and now...A WHOLE BUNCH OF AWESOME MUSIC STUDENT FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone who helped me blow up my video about my lessons, and I can't wait to meet you all and vibe :)
